Network Diagnostics Tool
Client: Spirent Technologies
A Desktop Software for use by Networking Technicians

When large organisations like Google, JP Morgan, etc. set up their internal/global networks, they employ network experts like Cisco to design & set-up the actual network. The devices used in each of these networks like routers, switches, etc. can cost up to one million dollars a unit.

These devices need to undergo several tests in both, stand-alone situation & in a network environment. The network designed too needs to undergo several tests. The cost to physically set-up the designed network for testing is very high due to the individual unit cost of each device. This creates the need to test a simulated network with the customized design.

Spirent is one of the two major global companies that manufactures the hardware for testing & the software that is used to create & run these tests. We were asked to redesign the results section of this software.
I made a cartoon to represent my first day in this project:

01. REQUIREMENT GATHERING

02. FEATURE IDEATION

Spirent Test Center - the original software.
The top half of the software is for creating the tests while the bottom half is for viewing results

We created a skeleton of the software with all the key areas defined.

This skeleton was to be used for ideation with the Spirent team.

The results section can be unpinned & expanded to a larger window.

With the initial understanding of the requirements, we used these screens to dig deeper with Spirent's team.

Given the technical knowledge required for a project like this, there was a gap in the communication of requirements.
We made these mock screens to help bridge the gap for us.

All the features were dug out through the mock screens.

This helped us & Spirent in creating a final excel document of all the required features.
